Inclusion Champions Network
ALLFIE is developing a service for Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) which will offer support to DPOs who are keen to seize the new opportunities there are to work with disabled children, young people and their families under the new Children & Families Act 2014. ALLFIE’s focus for the service will be about encouraging families and disabled learners to appreciate the importance of inclusive education as the only choice for children and young people.
For a bit of background, the Children and Family Act 2014 became law on the 1st September 2014. Section 3 of the Act sets out some major changes to SEN support and provision for disabled pupils and students with SEN.
ALLFIE’s service will include:
Support for DPOs to develop new skills and knowledge in this area which will compliment any existing work DPOs do re Direct Payments/Personal Budgets support, transition/routes into employment, advocacy, advice and information;
Engaging with young people and involving them in DPO work and activities;
Highlighting the importance of education as a building block to independent living for disabled people in adult life;
Supporting parents, through training, to be allies to their children and young people and focus on building aspiration;
An interactive online hub that will allow participating DPOs to share learning, access resources and learn about inclusive education in the 21st century
